There are three different gameplay options in story mode, with a character on both Hero and Dark representing it. Team Hero cannot let that happen, beginning the next chapter of the legendary Sonic vs. Eggman, using the information he's learned from his grandfather's files and from Shadow, hatches yet another plan to make the world his own. Eggman is looking for the secrets that his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, left behind, when he serendipitously releases Shadow the Hedgehog from his prison. Story mode is split up between Hero (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles) and Dark (Shadow, Dr. And, for better and for worse, it succeeds in bringing the same experience players had on their Dreamcasts.
Now, over a decade later, it gets an HD re-release on XBLA and PSN, hoping to rekindle the love affair from the early 2000s. Though the modern Sonic era has been rife with missteps and failures, fans still point to Sonic Adventure 2 as a beacon of light shining through the darkness. The Sega Dreamcast brought Sonic into the 3D realm and, with that, an overarching series of events that could only be described as an adventure. Two full campaigns (hero and dark side), lots of challenges for those who wish to conquer the full game (180 emblems), mini-games, battle mode and chaos garden to enjoy. Sonic Adventure 2 is, however, a content rich game. There is clipping (as in the original), atrocious cameras (especially if you are a bit unsure of what direction you're heading next), and other graphical issues in there, but then again it's a game from 2001.
Your eyes may start tearing up when faced with some of the less than impressive textures this game has to offer. The HD port looks reasonably good, especially the character models look clean and while aged, they won't bring tears to your eyes.
